Don't you wish you could RESET your mindset back to a clean slate, as easily as restarting your computer?
I do!
Does the authentic stresses of adulthood, income earning, family rainmaking, inevitable taxes, constant bills, responsibilities, work relationships, and the juggling of duties, coupled with increasing city noise boggle you down?
Even I, the experienced big-time city slicker am susceptible to these mentally draining and cumbersome adult problems. The weight of work failure, coupled with nighttime booze is not an ideal remedy.
So how can we fix our mental health? Mental Health is a major humanity issue in today's times. How can we perform a successful mental reset? Where is the ZEN my readers?
Recently after I became mentally bogged down, mean and zonked out, I awoke with the desire for a clearing of the mental pallet. How can this be done?
Here are some ideas, I thought of, coupled with my pretty lady sushi dinner date from last night.
1. Take a religious approach. My mother raised us in the Catholic Church, so my mind immediately googled the "Confession" hours at the nearest local church. It has been decades since I last physically attended a closed booth, priestly "tell-all "session. In the Catholic church, we are sinners. Jesus Christ died for our sins and has the ability to wipe them away. If the Catholic church does have a redeeming quality, it is the belief, we can be forgiven, and blessed with new beginnings. For those readers who have never actually endured a 1 on 1 priest confession session, it is interesting. Usually, at the end of the ordeal, the priest will give the sinner a penance. The Penance is a detailed order from the priest on what your action steps will be. For example, the last personal penance I can recall being given was to say the "Our Father" prayer 5 times aloud in the church. Thus a religious confession could be considered a method for the mental reset.
2. The Yoga, Meditative Group Method. This was my dinner date's method to performing a beneficial mental reset. For example, she told me that in either her yoga or meditative group settings, the class leader will allow the patrons to become entranced with peace, zen, deep breaths, and a calming sense to life. I personally have never attended a group meditative session. Have you? What is your review? I think it's worth a try. I mean in today's times there are probably more people in YOGA classes than actual church patrons. As I bike around I notice an equal amount of active YOGA studios in comparison to open door churches. The filthy demise of the priesthood and the Pope's inaction has definitely NOT helped the church's public relations campaign. The evangelicals' naive support of our asshole, adultering and mean president does not enhance the church's societal credibility.
3. Another idea on how to successfully hit your own individual reset button is to physically get outside and EXERCISE. Hit the trail. Go to the Gym. Go Biking. Go kayaking. Walk your neighborhood. Something. I personally have a better sense of being after an authentic exercise session. The fresh air and cardio movements invigorate the body and get new blood flowing. The stress is emptied out. Nature can have a calming effect and is perhaps the best scene to remove your inner city stresses and toxins.
4. A recent trend in adulting relaxation has been the invention of the Destination Day Spa. For 2 of my recent thirty-something birthdays, I booked an entire day at the Lake Austin Day Spa. The Lake Austin Day Spa. takes up an immense amount of acreage on the outskirts of the city of Austin. The grounds are very peaceful and relaxing. After paying for a required "treatment", ( I picked a full massage both times) you are permitted to linger on the Lakeside Spa Grounds for the remainder of the Day. I get my money's worth when I go. There is a pool to lounge, relax, read and unwind by. There is a therapeutic hot tub with bubbling jets to push your stress away. There is an indoor hut pool too. The men's locker room is reminiscent of a luxury country club. Extra soap anyone? Each Day Spa attendee is also given a robe to wear for the day, which is a pretty cool uniform. Lastly, my favorite aspect of the Lake Austin Day Spa retreat is the slow swinging hammocks adjacent to the water. In the winter time, post-Labor Day when the recreational boating action slows down, the glassy waters of Lake Austin are a mentally calming retreat.
