BookPeople ATX, now Live on BOOKSHOP

Dear Community of Readers,

We hope this email finds you safe and healthy. We cannot thank you enough for your support and encouraging messages throughout the past week, where it seems that our business model has changed by the day. We appreciate your support through all of the changes, and we are asking you to roll with us to our newest solution to get books in your hands, while keeping our booksellers safe.

Until further notice, we have temporarily moved all of our online ordering to our personalized BookShop site: https://bookshop.org/shop/bookpeople

By moving all of our online sales to BookShop, we are still able to fulfill all of your reading needs through an amazing third party partner, while keeping our booksellers safe and collecting 30% of all sales placed through our BookShop. This will help us to keep us running things behind the scenes for when our doors are able to open again.

To get us started, we have created a few curated booklists for you to browse through on our BookShop landing page (and we will continue to grow it with our booksellers' amazing recommendations), but if you have a specific title you are looking for, just search for that title through the search bar at the top and add it to your cart. When you have all items in your cart, go to check out and you will see the total amount that you are contributing to BookPeople. To ensure that your purchase is going towards supporting BookPeople, please be sure to use the link we’ve provided: https://bookshop.org/shop/bookpeople. To easily tell if you are on our page, you will see the BookPeople name and image in the top left corner.

BookPeople gift cards are not able to be redeemed on our BookShop but you can hang onto them until we reopen our doors and use them at that time.

Note about future event orders: we will be communicating with all event book orders over the next week to let you know how we will be proceeding with those orders.

Our booksellers cannot wait for the day we will be able to swing open our doors and welcome you back into our bookstore, but until then, please know that your love and support is felt and so very appreciated. It has always been an unspeakable privilege to be your neighborhood bookstore, and it will continue to be throughout this difficult time, and far into the future.

With much love,

Your neighborhood booksellers

Long Live Abortion!

Long Live Abortion! From now until the death of humanity! Warning, if you are a conservative, republican, aging white male, on the tail end of your life; you might NOT enjoy reading this. My relatively youthful opinions on this subject like most folks are strong. I once aced a University of Texas undergraduate course containing this abortion topic with an A letter grade. The course was titled, "Contemporary Moral Problems." Yeehaw! From that now decades old course, our University professor taught us, pupils, that abortion pre-viable fetus in the mother's womb should be allowed . Pre-viable fetus means the organism is unable to live on it's own without the mother. Abortion with a living viable fetus should NOT be allowed. This occurs usually in the 3rd trimester of a woman's pregnancy. To reiterate post-viable fetus, abortion should NOT be allowed. It's pretty simple. This line of thinking, is to determine if the early life can survive on its own,...

Book People states, "Black Lives Matter."

‌    ‌    ‌ Dear Reader, Over the last week we have taken some time to reflect on ways to be more effective allies. To start off, we want to make this perfectly clear: Black Lives Matter. BookPeople condemns white supremacy and the police brutality that has long targeted the Black community. We stand with those who are out in our streets, speaking out and fighting for Black lives. Systemic racism is not a matter of opinion, it is fact. We believe that one of our roles as a community bookstore is to provide access to books and educational resources that will inspire and enact change. However, there's always room to be better, to speak louder, and to do more. We are 100% committed to doing the work, to listen, to learn, to take action. We have opened the dialogue internally between leadership and staff members in order to crea...
